Bring out the Big Dreams

Sometimes the best things in life are scary.

Most people dream big, set goals, and resolve to do new things in January. I have never been a New Year’s Resolutioner.

I am a winter muser.

The snow is falling up here in the subarctic and I can’t help but continue to muse over two questions:

  • What am I doing with my life?
  • Why do I live here?

Answering either question is more complex than you would think.

At least I have cute boots to keep me happy and warm while I contemplate life.

December is always a catalyst for change for me.

It is not the -20 to -40 temperature range that brings the desire for change, it is my birthday. My birthday is my favorite day of the year because I get to do whatever I want, see how far I’ve come, and make big, hairy, audacious goals for the next year.

  • I love a good BHAG for my birthday.

This year I can’t wait for my birthday. I have dreams and ideas pouring out of me for 2013 and I am going to get started on them now.

2013 is the Year of Fear.

Apparently the world may end in a few short weeks. For some unbeknownst reason I am very unconcerned.

When you come to the edge of a cliff, you have to jump and learn to fly on the way down.

Once the apocalypse has happened or not, it only makes sense to do something big with 2013.

If I am alive on December 22, 2012, it means one of two things:

  1. The world didn’t come to a screeching, fiery halt and there is a lot more living to do.
  2. I lived through something epic and am one tough woman which means I can do a lot more living than I thought possible.

A theme emerges.

There is a lot more living to do.

We spend so much of our lives not living because we are afraid. Scared of what might happen, what people think, or not having enough.

In 2013, I am going to face 12 fears head on and see what happens. Poverty, hunger, failure, loneliness, speaking in public, success…to name a few…

  • What if things change in more than just my life?
  • What if my attempt to live my full life despite the fear impacts the world for the better?
  • What if not accepting a small life creates more life for others?

Each month starting in January, I will be personally tackling a fear and seeing what impact not living my life to avoid that fear has on my life and the world.

What if you joined in?

If you want to live a big, full life and not be stuck in fear, sign up for the Year of Fear newsletter. I will be sending it out through 2013 with challenges, insights, and ways to tackle your fears. I am doing this thing, whether you come or not but it is sure a lot more fabulous if you come along.

  • Be courageous!

It is time to live, apocalypse or not.

What are you afraid of?
