Smell of Freshly Baked Chicken First Thing In The Morning

One of the questions I get asked all the time is, ‘How do you balance it all?

Honestly? I don’t.

For instance, my husband doesn’t wake up to the smell of freshly baked muffins on Sunday morning. He is awoken to the smell of souvlaki seasoned chicken baking that he isn’t allowed to eat unless he wants to face a very hangry competitor.

Costco has them all pre seasoned! Best idea ever. Frozen straight into the oven and wah-lah success!

  • My house hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in 2 weeks.
  • I use more tupperware in a day than a small family does in a week.
  • Dishes are sometimes washed on an ‘as required’ basis.
  • I almost always have a load of workout clothes moving through the laundry.
  • The alarm rings at 4:30 am so I can workout and get my food together for the day before I have to start work.
  • I have eaten a hot stir fry eaten out of my purse at the movies even when I couldn’t find the fork in the dark.
  • The people I love in my life get knitted gifts because it keeps me from eating in the evenings.
  • When I try on heels in the store I always roll up my pant leg to see how my calf muscles are developing.
  • I often leave parties by 10:00 or fall asleep on the couch when at friends’ houses.

Does this seem balanced to you?

It sure doesn’t to me. What it does seem is happy, purposeful, and full of laughter.

Maybe balance is not something we should aim for; perhaps fulfillment is.

What makes you come alive?

Find those things and do them with abandon. Laugh, lose track of time, and maybe don’t do the dishes or clean the house even if you ‘should‘.

To heck with balance.

  1. Balance isn’t about doing a little bit of everything. Balance is about doing what needs to be done in order to win the day.

  2. I can relate to so many of these!! The last time I went to the movies, I actually had to take two meals with me and eat them in there! I felt like a freak as everyone ate their popcorn and frozen cokes 🙂

  3. True that! Sometimes trying to be balanced turns into stretching yourself thin. I just try to do what’s highest on my list of priorities and not sweat the rest too much. Which reminds me…cleaning? What’s that?!

  4. Donloree, I love your “real person” approach to the blogging world!! It’s so great! I laughed about the “Dishes are sometimes washed on an ‘as required’ basis.” I can soooo relate! haha!

    Allie, I love the …cleaning? What’s that?!?

You girls have me cracking up on a Monday morning! Thanks!

    • ‘Where’s the darned vegetable peeler? Oh right…under this mountain of tupperware and pots and pans…let me just fish it out for you…”
Its amazing what a dab of soap and a quick rinse can do. 😀
