A Day In The Life Of A Figure Competitor

A question that I get a lot is, ‘So what does a normal day look like for you?

Apparently I am not the only one, as this is the topic for Fitness Blog World tonight.

At 4:30 am I leap out of bed with my super woman cape on, crush something epic with my bare hands, and then fly across the city with only the help of my Superwoman cape to save a small family from a burning building. Then I stand on top of a mountain with a steaming up of black coffee, satisfied with my early morning accomplishment.

Uh…not so much.

My life is rather mundane. I know, I know…it may be a disappointment to some.

4:30 – wake up

4:32 – start coffee

4:34 – weigh in

4:35 – kick the scale a wee bit if its misbehaving

4:35 – blink several times wondering how long the coffee will take to perk

Then the day really begins!

I eat breakfast while tweeting with some other fabulous early morning fitness junkies and plan my day.

I keep all my tasks on note cards and file them for the day they are to be completed. Pulling them out in the AM and checking my calendar = success!

It is important for me to know what my goals are personally and for my clients each day so I can be as successful as possible in all arenas of my life.

I train hard at the YMCA, eat another meal, and then get dressed for my day all before 8:30 am.

The home away from home!

The the work day consists of emails, writing, blogging, prepping food, meetings, coaching, and dreaming.

And usually a trip to a grocery store.

For some reason I can’t seem to NOT go to the grocery store most days. Apparently it is my newest hobby in life

Today I picked up brussel sprouts.

Low carb, green veggie, and bilingual. WIN!

Whatever floats your boat, as my mom would say.

Then my very kind hearted husband comes home and we eat a competitor friendly meal together, he just eats 4 times the amount that I do, and then we chat, play games, meet friends, watch movies, or go for a walk or bike ride if my energy level allows.

Oh, and don’t forget the TUPPERWARE!

It looms like the Leaning Tower of Pisa in our kitchen. Every single night dishes must be done…a lot of them.

Before I hit the hay at 9:00 or 9:30, I down my supplements and email my coach.

supplements

Multivitamin, Thyriod 100, Adrenal Support, Vitamin B & D, Omegas, a green's supplement...oh my!

Competitors aren’t that different from everyone else.

We have a schedule, we go to the gym, we work, we eat, we connect with family and friends, and we do it all over again and again and again.

I know for myself, the biggest difference in my life is the why.

Now there is a reason for what I do and a purpose behind it. When I don’t want to be up at 4:30 am, prep food, train, or work on my business that I believe in with my whole heart, I remember that very critical piece that was missing for all these years…

I was made for this.

  1. It’s 4:26AM right now and I am waiting to digest my pre-workout meal before I hit the gym. I always appreciate early risers as I am one myself. I *try* to sleep in on off days to 6 (how sad is it that 6 is sleeping in?), but then I feel rushed. I am totally with you on this one.

Oh the random days when I ‘sleep in’ I feel like the whole day is lost. lol! 6:30 is still early for most of the world. It is hardest to get up this early up north in the winter because day light doesn’t even start to break the horizon until about 8. Summer is great though. 🙂

  2. I love how hard you work everyday it is so inspiring!
I’m glad I’m not the only one with the tower of tupper ware at the end of the night hehe. Since I pack my own lunch, snacks, and now the whole family’s! It’s a great habit though 😉
    Keep up the great work!!!

I want to hire someone to chop and wash for me! how much do you think that would run me. 🙂

  3. Friend, you are an inspiration! you’re attitude is contagious and I love that I am not so different from many other women out there who have similar routines as I do : )

I look forward to reading your posts everyday!

    Lots of love,

(PS I still dont like brussel sprouts…I reminds me of when I was a kid – I used to pinch my nose and down them…I still feel that way when I eat them :P)

  4. Do we all have a supplement stash that rivals the local vitamin shop? Your post makes me feel more normal and I’m glad there are others out there.
