Its TOTALLY Normal…


Well, maybe for Figure Competitors that is. Margie and I were chatting the other day about all the weird things we do now that we are part of the wild and wooly world of bodybuilding.

Please tell me you do these things!

  1. Try on high heels with your pant leg rolled up past your knee. No longer is it good enough to see you ankle when trying on cute shoes, you MUST ensure that your calves are popping out in style too!
  2. Bicep curl your groceries. I rarely take a cart out of the grocery store to my car after I purchase my lean protein and veggies, there are some biceps to grow on the walk out! Four bags of chicken, eggs whites, and sweet potatoes can create quite the burn!
  3. Food cycle. May competitors carb cycle, which I have been known to do from time to time, but I find myself constantly food cycling. For 3 or 4 weeks straight I am IN LOVE with a certain food and eat it non-stop, then suddenly I HATE it. After literally loving a food to death, it can take up to 6 months for me to even try it again. If I even see a mushroom right now my stomach starts to revolt!
  4. Shop at Lululemon for the 3 way mirrors. In every single dressing room they have three way mirrors and that lighting that makes you look thinner. Some days when I am feeling low, I pop into Lulu to try something new on and see how my back looks and take time to check out the triceps as well. Unfortunately I rarely leave without purchasing something; its quite the expensive pick me up!
  5. Get asked 4 times if you need help in the spice or salad dressing aisle. My furrowed brow and severe focus while scouring the shelves must reek of desperation, resulting in 4 different employees offering their help. There are macronutrients to compare and it takes time!  When I leave these aisles, usually 14 to 20 products have their backsides exposed for the next competitor that finds herself in food research mode. Low carb, low sodium, no sugar, no fake sweeteners and low-ish fat is hard to find.

Am I the only competitor with these random quirks?

    I carry the heavier shopping backs in my left hand in an attempt to even out the strength in my arms.

    I also strike a pose every time I pass a mirror … whether it’s in a public restroom or near a fitting room.

  2. 1. Yes. Usually. Depends on the heel height. My calves look odd in shorter heels.
    2. Yes. I have also been known to randomly drop pushups anywhere. But usually in the kitchen.
    3. Yes! I just got past an oatmeal phase!
    4. No, but I’m pose in almost every mirror I see. Working on that precious “lift” to the right place. 🙂 Also have been known to check my abs in the mirrors at work if I’m expecting lines to come out anytime.
    5. Dressing Isle, yes! I have a hard time with the tastes of dressings… many low fat or sugar free dressings taste… odd. Synthetic and am always looking at ingredients.

  3. I’m with Kari.. I carry heavier bags in my left hand to gain more strength on my left side! hahaha

    And I took “weird” to a whole new level Monday. I had to head into Boston & hangout at a bar with friends while waiting for my boyfriend to run the Boston marathon. At 3pm (on the dot) I whipped out a ziplock bag with exactly 3.5 ounces of chicken and 1 cup of asparagus. My friends were so grossed out and freaked out by this. But a Bikini competitor has to do what a bikini competitor has to do…
