I’m Getting My Dreams

Oftentimes when I tell people the details about how I eat, what I do for training, my work, and the many other random things I do in life they get overwhelmed. Looks of pure amazement and bewilderment cross their face.

If I look closely enough I also I see flickers longing in their eyes to live out their dreams; but before either of us know what happened statements like these come pouring out their mouths:

  • I wish I could, but it’s too hard.
  • I don’t know how to start – so complicated!
  • I tried once, but it didn’t work.
  • The results weren’t coming fast enough.
  • No time in my day.
  • There is too much to do.

Everyone has obstacles in their path. In this world we will have trouble!

Wow….so encouraging Donloree!

Actually it is.

If I just sit around and do nothing, don’t chase after my dreams, and avoid everything that frightens me I will be a small, miserable, dejected woman with trouble.

If I take huge leaps of faith, run hard after my dreams, and conquer my fears I will be a vibrant, life-giving, and fulfilled woman with trouble.

Somewhere along this journey we call life, I realized that if I sit and do nothing OR chase my dreams there will be obstacles and trouble. I want my dreams.

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bring on the obstacles!

  1. Those are definitely common excuses. Sometimes the hardest obstacles, though, are when people dissuade you from your dreams because they want to make themselves feel a bit better about not making the same choices. Like… when you order food at a restaurant and they ask “Really? you’re just going to have a chicken salad?” and sometimes that can make you think that you’re missing out on something because you’re not gorging yourself with chocolate cake. It takes courage to say “yeah, this is what I want, you can have it too if you’d like” and stand up for your goals. They might feel deprived if they make the same choice, but it doesn’t mean you have to just because of that.

  2. Reminds me of a post I blogged about a few weeks ago. Just when I start making excuses, I watch this and it puts me back in my place since I CAN make those dreams come true! I know you can too!
