15 Foods Left, Give Or Take

Its official. I am completely dairy-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, and random vegetables that bloat the heck out of me-free.

Apparently there about 15 things left that I can eat.

Oddly enough, I feel better than I have felt in a long time. I wasn’t eating a ton of dairy or vegetables that bloat the heck out of me, but it was enough to make me feel sick and horrible on a daily basis. Even ‘just one bite’ or a ‘smidgen’ was way too much for my body.

I didn’t want to give up that dollop of cottage cheese or yogurt with apples, cheese which is a glorious invention that I enjoy WAY too much, butter on my morning kasha, and tomatoes! I mean come on, tomatoes?!

The food seemed harmless enough but it was hindering my goals and progress every single day. As soon as I cut every single bit out of my diet, I started to see results.

What you put in, even in the smallest amount, matters. It matters more than you realize.

Not only is this true about our bodies, it is true of our minds. We put things in our minds Β in small amounts every day that hinders our results and progress in life.

Doubt –> “I am not sure, so I am going to be cautious and wait.”

Fear –> “Its important to be realistic about life and the possibilities. If it can’t be done it can’t be done.”

Self loathing –> “I am ugly, fat, and stupid and don’t even deserve what I have now. I hope no one else figures this out!”

Discouragement –> “Its too hard. I gave it my best and I didn’t succeed. I apparently just can’t.”

Discontent –> “When I achieve my goals I will be happy and fulfilled, but not until then.”

I didn’t want to ‘lose’ all these tasty foods that I enjoy so much, but in actuality my loss is my ultimate gain.

What would happen if we gave up the daily, tasty morsels of doubt, fear, self loathing, discouragement, and discontent? What amazing results would we start to see the very next day?

  1. I have been thinking about giving up dairy for awhile now and tomorrow I’m going to start. I have not seen much progress in the last few months and I’m really beginning to think it’s dairy that’s holding me back. I have all of the aforementioned feelings pulsing through my body. Every day I think, is it even possible for my body to transform into one like all the beautiful women I see on stage? Everyday I have doubts, but everyday despite those doubts, I go to the gym and kick my ass, so hears hoping! *crosses fingers*

    • Dairy-free competitors unite! We can suffer together. πŸ™‚
I do have to tell you a secret. You ALREADY ARE a beautiful woman – no transformation is required. When you walk on that stage who you ARE is going to be shown in all its glory for the world to see. So keep kicking butt at the gym and live with the sureness that when that day comes your body will have caught up to your spirit. You’ve got this thing!

Just curious how you narrowed things down? I am wheat/dairy/egg free, but I’m curious about the veggies etc..?

    • I don’t know what Donloree does, but I know I keep a diet log and I also make notes of when I feel bloated, burpy or have gas. This is how the process of elimination starts. You take out the food your body doesn’t seem to digest easily.

    • My naturopath gave me a list of veggies to avoid. Then I googled. I may be able to apply for a degreed in ‘Googleage’ at this point…

Here’s the list I went from:
Bamboo shoots, broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, spinach, kale, cauliflower, horseradish, lima beans, mustard greens, rutabaga, sweet potatoes, turnips, kohlrabi, cassava, strawberries, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, almonds, peanuts, walnuts, radishes, soybean and soy products, and tofu.

I have yet to cut out almonds and walnuts…I guess that’s next? Pecans are calling my name! hah!

    • And then I realized that tomatoes make me bloat in crazy amounts, so I took them out too.

  3. Thanks for the great post. Makes me mindful of what I put into my mouth and what I put into my mind! Just making a good thing better and it sure feels good to feel better. Keep sharing. It’s a ripple effect to others! πŸ™‚

  4. You make me laugh. I had a good chuckle when you said you had 15 things left that you could actually eat! Too funny. I’m SO excited that you are finally getting results though. Patience, you my dear are the epitamy of patience!

  5. I really only eat a couple foods regularly too. Honestly, I think I’ll be eating only 10 foods for the next 20 weeks?? But they’re foods my body likes, so I feel good! I totally understand how it feels to remove yummy food from your diet. You said it perfectly, though: “my loss is my ultimate gain.”

  6. Hey Donloree, I am sooo glad I found your site today. I am 3.5lbs away from losing 100lbs in 1 year. My 1 year anniversary is Fri Mar 11, I am doing everything this week to lose that 3.5lbs. Can you tell me what 15 things you do eat?

Hello!! CONGRATS! Such a fabulous accomplishment. I am very proud of you, very few people can do what you’ve done!
I am glad to be found. πŸ™‚ Let’s see…I currently eat chicken, egg whites, nuts (except peanuts and almonds), peppers, onions, mushrooms, beans, apples, berries, kasha, quinoa, potatoes, carrots, celery, and rice. I have basically become a very strict paleo-eater….but not by choice! I went kicking and screaming. πŸ™‚ Have you ever
checked out http://www.marksdailyapple.com? Tons of great recipes there. Keep me posted on how you do!!
