Book Review: Diet Doc’s Guide to Permanent Weight Loss

When I am back home, I promise to post some pictures of the ‘before’ Donloree.  Some of you knew me back then, so you know what I am talking about! Over the years I have undergone quite a transformation, or so people tell me.  Now that I weigh 80 pounds less than I used to and am training for a Figure Competition, I get tons of questions on fitness and health.  I haven’t taken any official training, but am getting pretty smart about food, diet, exercise, and health.

One of the books that I read at the start of my journey to becoming a Figure Competitor was ‘The Diet Docs’® Guide to Permanent Weight Loss: Secrets to Metabolic Transformation‘. I ordered this book to read over Christmas break. I ate pretty darned responsible over Christmas; it’s hard to keep shoving the shortbread in when you’re reading about healthy living and weight loss!

One of the best books I've read about food and healthy living...and I have read A LOT of them!

A lot of people eat whatever they want and work out to overcome what they ate.  Then they just end up where back where they started and are confused and frustrated.  Running in circles and chasing your tail is fun for a little while, but eventually you get dizzy.  If you want information that is easy to understand and implement for clean eating, grab this book!

I know from first hand experience that it works, because Dr. Joe is my nutrition coach and we’ve made some significant gains since working together.  He is officially leading the charge in the fight against the Muffin Top, which I greatly appreciate.

If you want to stop chasing your tail, start by learning about food!  This book is a great place to start.

If you read it, let me know what you think.

  1. How are you doing today girl!!

  2. Donloree!! This is amazing. Although you don’t know me, we have met once, I am a friend of Jon’s, from college. He forwarded me this link this evening. I have read your entire blog, I had no choice, I was glued, hooked, unable to shut down the computer and go to sleep. I was once as dedicated as you, and to be honest, I miss it dearly. About a year ago, I had a trainer, a strict nutritian plan, and was on the road to competing in my first tri-fit competition iin Las Vegas. Plans changed when a wedding invition came in the mail and it was the same weekend of the competition. I was shattered. My trainer advised that I shouldn’t train for the competition if i wasn’t going to compete as it was ‘unhealthy’ for my body and would be a waste of a lot of cash. I still don’t know why to this day, that I just stopped… stopped eating clean, stopped exercising, and stopped caring. Your blog was so interesting as I could relate to so many aspects of it. It was motivating! I once again would like to commit to get back on the wagon, loose the 25 pounds i gained while not caring, and lose a little more and conquer a challenge for me! Thanks for writing this. Any tips, nutritian tips or plans, and exercise tips would be awesome. Look forward to reading your future blog postings, and hearing about your first competition. You will do great!

    • Thank you for the kind words. I am so glad that my journey has helped to reignite the passion for fitness. Know what is great about being able to just stop? It means that you can just start again! You can totally set some goals and get back on the wagon! My journey has been one of doing it as healthy as possible and I love the nutrition and training plans that I am on. I feel better than I have in years. Send me an email at dl at with more specific questions and I will share what I know with you! Looking forward to hearing from you. 🙂

  3. I must say I can not thank you enough for telling me about this book while i was frustrated in the change room that day:) I have started it a week ago and created my own program. I actually have energy and can workout better. SO I have officially broke the 20mm caliberation. I am down from 32mm to 19mm, now next few weeks with this new book I can not see how much i will drop. I really needed to find that balance and I THINK I have! Thank you Thank you Thank you,
