I have been known to go about life without reading instructions. To me, this is the most sensible way to get things done. If I run into a problem I could consult the instruction manual, but I truly believe that most things can be accomplished by common sense and perseverance. I do realize that I have a unique way of approaching life. This may have something to do with the fact that I started life off in a catawampus sort of way. My mom and I are two peas in a pod, and while pregnant with me she tripped, fell, and apparently rolled down a somewhat large cliff on the west coast. We were both fine, but have never been the same since!

I grew up in ‘The States’ as Canadians call it, and have fond memories of building forts in the living room with my brother and sister, riding bikes to the park, and my first real job, picking berries in the summers, to make my very own money. I DO NOT have fond memories of being one of the tallest girls in the 6th grade, anything to do with Junior High (which I have labeled as ‘the awkward years’), or learning how to drive by being forced to drive on the Interstate at 60mph my very first time behind the wheel.

When I was 18 years old I moved to Canada to go to University and stayed. I now have a large collection of scarves, mittens, down-filled items, and sensible, a.k.a. ugly, shoes and clothes to survive the winter temperatures that reach down to -40 Celsius without the wind chill. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Theology with a minor in Intercultural Studies in 2002, and now manage a design firm in downtown Edmonton. Doesn’t this make complete sense?

For the most part, I am an average woman that works 8-5, is married, and lives in the sub-arctic. But then totally weird and bizarre events seem to happen to me, and only me. It’s as though I am a magnet for ridiculous things. I also have a big mouth that results in me doing things like catering a conference for 150 people without any previous catering experience, creating a mosaic backsplash that required me to cut 600 tiles by hand, and putting new brakes on my car just to save a few hundred bucks.

Making people laugh and writing about my odd views on life are things I have always loved and have been doing since I was a small girl. There is no better feeling in the world than a sore stomach from laughing hysterically.

Along with writing and making people laugh, my proudest accomplishments include working with Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, completing a triathlon, and renovating our first home.
