Chocolate Raspberry Heaven…But Not Until Summertime

Technically, I should hate raspberries.

From the ages of 12 to 15, I spent my summers picking raspberries starting at 7:30 am most mornings. My friends and I thought we were raking in the cash by earning $2.25 for each flat (12 cups) of berries that we picked. AND if you stayed the whole season, you got a $0.25 bonus for each flat picked.

I loved berry bonus day.

Even at the age of 12, I took my bonus and bought a fabulous pair of shoes with my hard earned cash.

Needless to say, I have consumed more raspberries in my lifetime than the average woman.

Even after spending so many early mornings with this seedy berry, I still truly adore it. On high carb days, it is one of my favourite things to indulge in.

When I saw this fabulous Figure Competitor friendly dessert idea, I nearly swooned.

Raspberries with chocolate chips

The woman that thought this up is GENIUS! Dark chocolate chips in raspberries? Ummm...yes, please!!

Off I ran to the grocery store to create the Pinterest inspired chocolate raspberry rapture at my house.

Do you have any idea how much raspberries cost in the middle of winter in the sub-arctic?

Basically a million dollars.

Raspberries

$3.99 is the SALE price? ACK!

I just couldn’t do it.

Apparently I won’t be basking in this glorious treat until summertime.

If you live in a temperate zone where berries don’t have to be imported via plane, train, and ship, give this a try and let me know what you think!

I have no doubt it would be fabulous. I am desperately trying not to drool while I write this post.

Mmmm…chocolate raspberries!

  1. Wow! Two of my absolute favourite flavours in one treat! I will definitely have to try these but like you, I’ll wait until summer when the raspberry bushes in our backyard produce more of the succulent berries than we can ever use!

  2. OMG!!! This looks amazing!!!

    T.

  3. Berries in Australia are $6.99 a punnet, minus two months of the year when they’re $4.99. Your berries are a bargain!!

  4. Buy the berries! Now!

  5. Oh my. I must make these asap!!

  6. Justify berry purchase with price-to-nutrient ratio. Or, because Alberta is abusively expensive for all things food (except beef), move to Toronto. Millions of fruit stands on every corner offering offensively cheap produce. I can fill a basket with spinach, carrots, peppers, cauliflower, asparagus, tomatoes, apples, pears and all the berries in the world and it never costs more than 15 bucks.

Sure, the weather here sucks (well, it is worse than Calgary) and people are rude, but the VEGETABLE PRICES!!
