Sixth Week of Fitmas – 6 Push Ups Pushing

There is nothing quite like watching someone banging out a bunch of military style pushups without batting an eye.

Images of GI Jane come rushing into my mind whenever I think about a hardcore woman doing push ups. I am embracing the GI Jane-esque qualities into my life that I appreciate.

  • Discipline
  • Focus
  • Competitive Spirit
  • Iron Will
  • Mental Acuity

But I am going to keep my hair, just in case you were wondering.

This week of Fitmas is all about the pushups and we are going to push it past what is reasonable, well because that is what Fitmas is all about.

  • 6 Days
  • 6 Varieties
  • 6 Sets
  • 6 -12 Reps

Its about to get ridiculous.

For 6 days this week we are going to complete 6 different kinds of pushups. Choose your level of fitness and get moving!

Level 1 – Choose two types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Feel free to start on your knees.
Level 2 - Choose three types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Drop to your knees only when necessary.
Level 3 - Choose four types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Drop to your knees only when necessary.
Level 4 - Choose five types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Drop to your knees only when necessary.
Level 5 - Choose five to  types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Drop to your knees only when necessary.
Level 6 - Complete all  types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps. Drop to your knees only when necessary.
Level Insanity - Complete all  types of push ups from below each day for 6 days and complete 2 sets of those push ups at 8-10 reps AND do the ‘Hardest Push Ups Ever‘ challenge that I found. It kind of looks like you would throw up and if you don’t die, well, you could be really proud.

Here are the 6 types of push ups:

No equipment required; just your arms and an iron will that would make GI Jane proud.

Let’s build that upper body to match the bootay that we will be creating later this month.

Fitmas shirts are here!

Fitmas is changing the world.

There will be a Fitmas shirt wearing challenge coming your way shortly, so you’re going to want to get a Fitmas shirt, button, or mug ASAP in order to participate and get a chance to win fun prizes.

I can’t wait to hear about the crazy amount of DOMS that is about to come from this week’s challenge.

Am I the only one facing this challenge with trepidation?

  1. I decided to do military pushups yesterday at the gym, for the first time in months. To my surprise, I was able to bang out 10 before feeling tired! Back in the day, I could do max 6 until I felt exhausted. (Yes I am proud of myself, I am patting my back right now!)

  2. oh great, the fimas t-shirts are out!! Love them.
For the push ups..When I first read the challenge I was asking myself where the challenge was…until I tried out :)…

  3. I do love pushups! I’m finding it hard to progress though – I can either bash out loads on my knees, or do two maximum “man” push ups, then need to take a break! Any ideas for how I progress from one to the other?

And I’ve hurt myself this week (sowwee), so I shall be doing a Stacked challenge – Level 1 today, Level 2 tomorrow…etc. Ease myself back into it!

    • Great question! If you want to increase your ‘man push ups’ then do as many full push ups as you can then drop to your knees for the up portion and pop back to your feet for the down portion. Keep going in between knees and feet for each push up and work on keeping your form strong and your strength will start to improve!

I love the stacked challenge idea. My chest is screaming today so I may take it down a level today.

  4. I saw this challenge and thought, I like pushups – let’s go for the gusto. Choosing Level 6, I completed all six styles for 8 reps x 2 sets. I was happy when I finished all 96 pushups.

I did not attempt this challenge again last night because HOLY DOMS!! My abs and arms are still complaining. But on the bright side, I didn’t have to do an ab workout.

    Insanity level next…
