I tried to buy shoes…REALLY!

Posted on 04 September 2009

One of my favorite shoe stores, Gravity Pope, is having a a Shoe Warehouse Sale.  This means they are cleaning out their basement and hauling up all the forgotten shoes and selling them CHEAP.

What woman can resist this sale?  Nancy and I rearranged our evening in order to get there asap.  I desperately tried to convince Jon that bailing on our date to go shoe shopping was completely rational.  He just rolled his eyes and told me to go and have fun with Nancy.  We were off like a shot with latte in hand to  rummage through ridiculously marked down designer shoes.

There were Fluevogs, Terra Plana, Fly Girl, Farylrobin, Kenneth Cole, Angeli Inquietl, Audley London, Camper, Think, Materia Prim, Hispanitas, Irregular Choice, Objects in the Mirror, Cydwoq, Calleen Corder…the list could go on and on…

Shoes, shoes, wonderful shoes!

Shoes, shoes, wonderful shoes!

I dug and dug through the shoes, but could not find anything I liked in my size…so I went to other sizes to see if I could cram my foot into something cute or shove a toe box full of tissue and still be able to walk.

I found gorgeous Fluevog boots that I managed to squeeze my feet into, but I couldn’t justify buying them because my legs started to lose circulation within 30 seconds of wearing the boots.  I could see myself falling over a lot wearing them…and I do that enough without wearing boots that cut off the blood supply to my lower legs.

There were women EVERYWHERE.  Suddenly, through the crowd of women, I saw a pile of shoes that had been tried on, but not purchased.  A gold mine!  I dug through and found a pair of Irregular Choice shoes for $9.99.  I immediately tried them on.

Warm enough to wear in winter?

Warm enough to wear in winter?

Yes, they are a turquoise knit heel with leather accents…but for $9.99, I could make an ‘Irregular Choice”.  Unfortunately they were huge and refused to stay on my feet when I walked.  Boy did I try to make it work, but losing your shoes every 6th step is more than a little bit awkward.

Since no shoes were meant for me, I moved onto rummaging through the accessories. I found the most intense scarf I think I have ever seen.  It was three 8 foot long scarves woven together.

The most intense scarf I have ever tried on

Modelling the epic scarf while trying to take a covert picture.

It was a mere $20, but I couldn’t imagine where to wear it other than a blizzard, so I left it for a fashionable eskimo to purchase.

Suddenly a cabinet full of purses winked at me, and I immediately abandoned the weird scarves.

Which one needs to come home with me tonight?

Which one needs to come home with me tonight?

There was a gorgeous red leather Kenneth Cole that screamed, ‘Buy me!  Buy me!”.  I was all in until I saw the price tag, it was technically a good deal at 50% off, but paying $130 for a purse wouldn’t really be fiscally responsible.

The deals were incredible, but I was hoping for something EVEN more amazing.  I know.  I have completely unreal expectations.

Fantastic deal, just not fantastic ENOUGH...sigh...

The purse was 75% off, but I couldn’t justify spending $80 on a purse after purchasing 6 purses in NYC this spring.  Perhaps I can negogiate at the end of the sale, just to take it off their hands.  An act of a Good Samaritan for sure.

I will fondly remember the pair of Farylrobins that were 3 sizes too big, but beautiful nonetheless…may they be purchased by a woman that will truly appreciate them.

Another time, another place...

I really, really tried but left empty handed.  Perhaps next year.  Gravity Pope Warehouse Sale 2010, you can’t come fast enough!

I have size 14 EEEE feet (That’s a 15.5 in ladies); I resent shoes all together.

I love that you took pictures, ever thinking of the blog, eh?

Wow, I can see your reason for resenting shoes. I love the heck out of them.

I had to take pictures! Just too much fun to keep to myself. =)

As soon as I found out there was a sale at Gravity Pope…I knew I had to stay AWAY!!! I bet you could use that 8 ft scarf as rope tow when you have to pull your car out of the snow. haha

Eine, I totally should have bought that scarf! It would have come in handy this week for towing the car throw the snow. Just tie around your waist and off you go!

It’s a pretty safe sale to go to if you have an average size foot. For the women that have small or large feet it must have required epic amounts of self control!
